Simple Multiplication Practice

HonorPoint is a site dedicated to the learning of multiplication facts.

Students and teachers can use an interactive multiplication table to see the relationships between numbers.

The site also provides review and study areas where students can see all of the facts for a number or have facts revealed a number at a time.

The practice drills allow the students to respond by clicking on a multiple choice answer.

Finally, the test is more like traditional online multiplication practice where students type in answers.

I will be adding this site to my collection of places for my students to practice their facts.  I love having a variety of choices to appeal to all of my students!

 

Harcourt E-Lab

The Harcourt E-Lab provides great illustrations and practice modules for math curriculum's.  There are E-Labs for Third Grade, Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade, and Sixth Grade.

For example, Multiplying Decimals and Whole Numbers allows students and/or teachers to select numbers for a problem and then see a graphic representation.  This would be great projected for students to see during a lesson.

is a fun way for students to learn about and practice using different parts of speech.

Students start by selecting from four different categories:

I could easily see this as a whole group activity with the site being projected on a screen or interactive whiteboard.  Students could add to the list of words provided and/or talk about why the words given fit the category... how monkeys, tables, and hammers are all nouns, etc...

Lemonade Stand Activity

My students go crazy for real life simulation activities.  I have been looking for a lemonade stand activity for several years.  Each one I would find was somewhat limited or cost $$$.  I recently found this lemonade stand online activity.  My 2nd and 3rd graders love it!  We have also had some great discussions about profit/loss, the cost of starting a business and what things affect how much you sell.  I would like to develop some type of handout for the students to record their findings.

Grammar Scavenger Hunt Printable

A few days ago I shared the a post about the Harcourt Grammar Glossary.  I meantioned that I wanted to create a scavenger hunt to go along with it...well here is the printable document.  This would be an easy NeSA review activity for 3rd, 4th, or 5th graders.  It would also work for 2nd graders as they learn many of these terms.

In prepartion for the NeSA-R, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have been studying many academic vocabulary words.  I am always on the lookout for new sources to help the students understand these words.  The Harcourt Grammar Glossary provides nice illustrations for many of those words.  Students can hear the words read, read a definition, and see an animated illustration.  I'm thinking of creating a scavenger hunt for students to complete as they look through the site.

Skip Counting

As a part of our school improvement goal we have a focus on skip counting.  I here are several online resources and activities I have created for students to practice.

The Counting Game- A fun and easy game from Learning Planet.  My first graders enjoy playing this game.

Count On- This activity includes 4 color by number pictures.  This would be a fun way to introduce a multiple using a projector.  Students could take turns finding the next number.  It could also be an easy review activity for individuals or small groups.

Splat Squares Reveal- This is a fun way to practice skip counting, numbers, sequence or any other hundred chart activity.  Students can choose a splat color and click a square to reveal the number on the hundreds chart.

Splat Squares- This is the same activity from above with the numbers always showing.

Super Sequencer- This is a full screen counting machine.  You decide the starting number, the increments to count in, and how fast the computer will count.  This would be fun projected as the students counted along.

Printable Interactive 100 Chart- Students can color and print a full page hundreds chart.  This could also be used online without printing.

Math Dynamics- Here you will find game ideas and simple rhymes.
