Encourage
students to take lots of pictures. They can always be erased, but
you can never add pictures to a scene and have them match 100%.
-
Create
and print color backgrounds from a draw/paint program like Kid Pix
Deluxe.
-
Tape
backgrounds to pieces of cardboard and construction paper or lego
floors to the table to prevent movement.
-
Caution
students from moving the camera, tripod or backgrounds. This will
cause their movie to look “jumpy”.
-
Have
students import pictures into iPhoto and store them in multiple
albums. This will make the transition from iPhoto to iMovie easier.
-
Uncheck
the Ken Burns effect in iMovie, you can always add it later.
Duration should be set anywhere from 0:01 to 0:20. I ask students
to import 10 pictures at the lowest duration and see how fast their
pictures move. If they move too fast, have them select the 10 pictures
and reset the duration at a higher duration. Students should do
this until they find a speed they’re comfortable using for
their movie. Zoom should be set at 1.00.
-
Have
students add all pictures, transitions and effects before adding
voiceovers or music.
