Look Again

Grade Levels: 4th and above

Materials:

  • The book Look Once Look Twice by Janet Marshall
  • Digital Photos representing letters of the alphabet

Before the Computer:

  • Read the book Look Once Look Twice by Janet Marshall

Step 1: Create a new 8 x 10 inch document, which is 300 dpi, RGB Color mode, and has a White Background.

Step 2: Open a digital picture.  Choose Window-Images-Tile from the menu bar.

Step 3: Insert the digital picture onto your blank document by clicking and dragging the image over.  Close the digital image and leave open your new document.

Step 4: Resize the digital image layer as needed and move it to the top of the document.

Step 5: Duplicate the digital image layer by pressing command J on the keyboard.

Step 6: Drag the duplicate digital image layer to the bottom of the document.

Step 7: Select the Horizontal Type tool and type a letter of the alphabet to match your digital image.  Resize the letter so it covers a good part of the digital image.

Step 8: Select the Move tool and adjust the placement of your letter to your desired location.

Step 9: Click Layer-Simplify layer in the menu bar.

Step 10: Select the Magic Wand tool.  Click inside the letter to select it.  Press delete on the keyboard.

Step 11: Click on Layer 1 Copy in the Layers palette so it is selected and blue.

Step 12: Go to Select-Inverse in the menu bar.

Step 13: Press delete on the keyboard.

Step 14: Select the Move tool in the tool bar and deselect by pressing command D or Select Deselect in the menu bar.

Step 15: Add a drop shadow from the Layer Styles palette.

Step 16: Use the text tool to type the name of the item in the digital picture below it.

Step 17: Go to Layer-Flatten Image.

Step 18: Save and Print the document. 

Step 19:  Cut the page in half and combine into a class book.
